OCB Workshop Registration

United Way Toronto is pleased to offer low-cost training providing learning opportunities for staff and board members to enhance their skills and knowledge base. Our strategic direction of offering supports through Organizational Capacity Building (OCB) includes a focus on individual knowledge development as a means to achieve organizational development and to increase capacity to serve clients and the growing needs of communities.

TO REGISTER:

Registering on-line does not guarantee that you are registered in your selected courses. Registration will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis, space permitting. A confirmation of registration will be e-mailed in advance of the workshop. If you do not receive a confirmation e-mail, your name will be automatically added to a waiting list. If a space becomes vacant, you will be contacted prior to the course giving you the opportunity to attend. UNITED WAY TORONTO CANCELLATION POLICY

Cancellation/Rescheduling by Participant: If your plans should change after you have registered, you may designate a substitute to attend in your place at any time or you may transfer to another session or a different event at least 48 hours PRIOR TO the training for which you have enrolled. Contacting United Way Toronto in advance of the day of training will allow someone on the waiting list to attend if you must cancel or reschedule.

In the event you need to cancel your registration, you may do so for a full refund if you inform us of your cancellation at least 7 business days before the start of the training.

NO reimbursement will be made if you fail to attend your scheduled session. Non-paid, no-shows registered by phone, mail, fax, or online will be invoiced to your organization to pay for the space reserved for you.

Cancellation by United Way Toronto: Training may be cancelled at least one to five days in advance of the event if there is very low registration, or the instructor/facilitator is unavailable. Registration fees will be refunded or registrants will be offered to attend another training event, if available. All registrants will be contacted if United Way Toronto cancels a training workshop.

Payment: Your organization will be in invoiced for payment of all staff and volunteers who register for training through the United Way's Organizational Capacity Building Training Program. The invoice will be e-mailed directly to your organization to the attention of your executive director. Your organization may pay by credit card or cheque. This applies to all workshops and seminars, except the Volunteer Lawyers Service, where you must register online and pay at the time of registration. Location of workshops: Training courses are held at United Way Toronto office unless otherwise indicated. The United Way office is located at 26 Wellington Street East, 2nd floor, Toronto.

By Subway: At King Station, walk south on Yonge St. two blocks to Wellington St., turn east (left) and walk one block. United Way is the first building on the corner, north side.

The Charities File — Ten Practices for Managing Your Charitable Status

Executive directors, board members, managers, as well as faculty and coordinators within post-secondary programs related to the voluntary sector should attend this module that will provide participants with an overview of the roles and responsibilities of senior staff and board members in ensuring the T3010A is filed accurately and on time. It will also outline CRA's role as a potential partner, and strategies for improving the capacity of a charity. If you attend both sessions there will be some overlap of material.

The Charities File — Completing the Registered Charity Information Return (T3010A) for CRA

Staff or volunteers responsible for completing the T3010A, i.e. bookkeepers, treasurers, executive directors, faculty and coordinators within accounting programs, and accountants should attend this module that provides training, which should enable participants to prepare information, attachments and transfer organizational and financial information to the T3010A. It will provide valuable tips on how to accurately complete the form. If you attend both sessions there will be some overlap of material.

Start-Up! Planning to Start a Small Business

United Way, in partnership with Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) George Brown, is pleased to offer START-UP an interactive 6-session workshop series that will provide the necessary skills to start a small business or social purpose enterprise; which will increase sustainability and profitability for your organization. Executive directors, senior managers, front-line staff or volunteers who will be responsible for developing a small business plan will be equipped to develop an actionable business plan ready to implement at the end of the workshop series. Those who complete the 6-sessions will receive a certificate of attendance and complimentary one on one coaching support with SIFE George Brown to help tailor and finalize your business plan.
